Recently I decided to make a play pen for my kids, many options were available in the market but decided to try this project myself and try to make something. Play pen is basically is protected enclosure for kids to play inside safely and do their activities in a safe environment. Ones available in the market are of many types as shown below.
Wireframe & Fabric Playpens
First one is wireframe based with fabric walls as shown, It has a basic structural frame and there is a woven or synthetic fabric sewed with the frame. This type is usually quite cheap but is not very durable, as the fabric can be eaily torn.
Plastic Molded Playpens
This type of playpen is modular & made of plastic walls which can be interlocked with each other and form a nice enclosed area to play. However these ones are quite expensive
Inflatebale Playpens
These are inflaterbale and take up different shapes once fully inflated using an air pump. These are quite good for kids but should be used with care as any slight puncture can extend and rupture the walls.
Wooden Playpens
Wooden playpens are mostly crib shaped and for very small babies. They are basically cribs.
What I wanted to make was something more flexible in use and bigger in size also. It may be used for multiple purposes. I had something like this in my mind.
So, I decided to make it using uPVC pipes and the project began.
First of all I made some rough sketches for my own understanding.
Then we went shopping for the materials required.
Materials and Equipment
2 inch diameter lengths of pvc pipes
0.75 inch diameter lengths of pvc pipes
elbows for 2 inch pipes
Drill Machine
Round hole bits set
PVC Pipe cutter
As I’m doing this project in Pakistan, so these materials and equipment is very readily available in Rawalpindi from City Sadar Road.
